CLARK MAINTAINS NATIONAL FORD FOCUS POINTS LEAD WITH WIN
WESTLAKE
VILLAGE, CALIFORNIA (April 18, 2011) –
17 year-old Jessica Clark scored her first career USAC Ford Focus
Midget Series victory by winning the feature at the Las Vegas
Bullring on Saturday night.
Clark also is tied with her Ron Sutton’s Winner’s Circle teammate
Brandon White atop both the USAC Western and National Ford Focus
standings.
The strong start to the season puts Clark in contention to be the
only female national champion in USAC history.
The weekend started off with Clark timing in fifth quick at 15.590
seconds around the three-eights mile oval. Clark finished third in
her eight lap heat race before turning attention to the 30 lap
feature.
Much like her teammate Trevor Hunt did earlier in the night in the
USAC Young Guns feature, Clark would win her first career main
coming from the outside front row.
After Jimmy Moon led the opening lap of the race, Clark stormed to
the lead. The race went by with few cautions and Clark ran
consistent laps throughout the event.
“I'm so excited to get my first win on my favorite track,” Clark
said. “After taking the lead in the second lap I buckled down,
stayed intensely focused, and reminded myself to go deeper into the
turn entries. I tried to hit my marks every lap until I saw the
checkered flag.”
Clark drove away to a comfortable 1.6 second advantage to take the
convincing win over White, Ricky Bowers, and Moon to give Ron
Sutton’s Winner’s Circle a clean sweep of the top four positions.
“Jessica definitely earned her first career win,” Driver Coach Ron
Sutton said. “Now that she has the first one out of the way, I have
no doubt she is capable of winning many more races before the season
is over!”
