JESSICA CLARK FIRST FEMALE 2-TIME USAC CHAMPION
WESTLAKE
VILLAGE, CALIFORNIA (November 30, 2011) –
17 year-old Jessica Clark became just the third female USAC champion
in history, and the first to win two championships, winning two
USAC Focus Midget championships behind the wheel of the Jessica
Clark Racing #44 Focus Midget.
Jessica had wrapped up her first championship of the year in the
USAC SoCal Pavement Focus Midget series before the Turkey Night
Grand Prix. With her sizable points lead in the USAC Western
Pavement Focus Midget series, she just needed to start the race at
Turkey Night to claim her second Championship.
The Westlake High School senior also becomes the latest champion to
be produced from the highly-lauded Ron Sutton’s Winner’s Circle.
RSWC is a driver development program based in Sacramento, Calif.
that selects and develops drivers with career potential in
motorsports.
Clark was racing in her third season in the USAC Ford Focus cars and
competed in the entire 24 race schedule that encompassed events in
Northern and Southern California along with Nevada and Arizona.
Clark’s strong start to the 2011 season saw her lead the USAC
National Ford Focus standings throughout the early months as well.
A second place finish in the season opener at I-10 Speedway and
Clark’s first career victory at Las Vegas in April propelled her to
an early lead in the USAC Western Pavement standings that proved too
much for any other competitor to overcome.
Clark added five more runner-up finishes before the year was out,
needing only to start Thursday’s Turkey Night Grand Prix finale at
TOYOTA Speedway in Irwindale, CA to claim the championship. Clark
qualified a strong ninth place out of a 24 car turnout and brought
the HotRodPartsGuide.com-sponsored mount in 13th place to
seal the deal on the championship.
In addition to the USAC Western Pavement Ford Focus and USAC SoCal
Ford Focus crowns, Clark also finished 11th in the
National Ford Focus standings and made seven starts in the NASCAR S2
Sportsman for Tim Huddleston’s High Point Racing.
All told, the busy productive season for the 17 year-old racer saw
her make 31 starts with 19 top-fives and 30 top-tens.
“We are extremely proud of Jessica and her accomplishments this
season,” Driver Coach Ron Sutton said. “She has met and exceeded
our high expectations for her and we are already looking forward to
what she will accomplish in 2012!”
Jessica Clark Racing’s plans for 2012 are determined at this time
but will be announced at a later date.
